The main task of a criminal defense lawyer is to provide comprehensive and effective protection of the client's rights and legitimate interests within the framework of a criminal case. A defense lawyer in criminal cases has the authority of a full-fledged participant in the criminal proceedings.

The defendant's counsel participates in the main court proceedings in cases provided for by the criminal procedural code, as well as at the invitation of the defendant, their legal representatives, and other persons by the defendant's commission or with their consent.

The lawyer provides items, documents, and information necessary for legal assistance, participates in the examination of other evidence, presents to the court their opinion on the substance of the charges and their substantiation, on circumstances mitigating the defendant's liability or justifying them, on the measure of punishment, as well as on other issues arising in the court proceedings.
